AEC Events for 2024: Current Events from David Fleenor, Our President:
AEC Will Be at General Convention!
The Association of Episcopal Chaplains will be at this 81st General Convention, meeting in Louisville, Kentucky, June 23 – 28, 2024. We appreciate the support of the Office of Military Chaplains and Federal Ministries in sharing some of their booth space with us in the General Convention Exhibit Hall. We're excited that some of our members will be involved in a variety of roles, including sharing information about our Association.
In recent history chaplains have been participants in General Convention in a variety of ways. AEHC's participation in General Convention goes back to Indianapolis in 1994. The Office of Federal Chaplaincies has been represented in the Exhibit Hall, either as part of the National Church's booth or in its own space. The Assembly (now Association) has also participated, sometimes with the Office of the Armed Forces and Federal Ministries and sometimes with its own booth.
Other chaplaincy organizations were also represented. At one time there was an Episcopal Society for Ministry in Higher Education (ESMHE). In convention years ESMHE scheduled their annual conference just before General Convention to make it easier for members to participate. Episcopal Health Ministries (EHM) a colleague organization focusing on parish-based health ministries, was also present for a number of years. Episcopal healthcare institutions and systems would sometimes be represented when Convention was held in their region.
Chaplains also participated in other ways. A number have served their dioceses as Deputies. Others have been volunteers with the Office of the Armed Forces and Federal Ministriess or with various dioceses, helping to follow resolutions of interest.
Once again, if you will be at General Convention in some capacity, please let us know at assemblyofepiscopalchaplains@gmail.com.
The Association of Episcopal Chaplains will have a retreat in September at the Trinity Wall Street Retreat Center in West Cornwall, CT. Details will be coming soon!
